Profile
A right-hand middle-order batsman, Neil Broom learnt his cricket in Christchurch and represented Canterbury for three seasons from his first-class debut in 2002-03 before shifting to Otago. He was Otago's leading run-scorer in the 2006-07 season with 644 runs and moved closer to national selection two years later, when he was included in the New Zealand squads for the Emerging Players tournament and the A tour of India. He made the New Zealand one-day squad against the touring West Indians - as a replacement for the injured Scott Styris - on the back of a good State Championship season, during which he averaged over 63 in four games. Aside from cricket, Broom played a lot of golf and practiced judo as a youngster. He is a product of East Christchurch Shirley, the same club which produced Craig McMillan and Nathan Astle.
