Profile

Rory Kleinveldt is another member of South Africa's assembly line of big-hitting, fast-bowling allrounders. He was a member of South Africa's Under-19 team which made the final of the 2002 World Cup, and after a stint with the South African Academy side, was fast-tracked into first-class cricket by Western Province in 2002-03. An unremarkable debut resulted in a spell with the province's B side but consistent performances, including a 6 for 22 against Border which he counts as his best spell, soon made him a regular in the first XI. He has had a few issues with his weight and was nicknamed 'Bigshow' by his Western Province team-mate Mark de Stadler, but his progress continued with several impressive seasons with the Cape Cobras. He was rewarded with a spot in the South Africa A side touring India in 2007, and finally a call-up to the national one-day squad in October 2008. He didn't get a game then, and went on to have a forgettable Twenty20 international debut - he scored three and bowled a wicketless 20-run over. He had a brief spell with Hampshire in 2008 as a Kolpak player and in 2009 was selected as part of the Cobras' squad for the inaugural Champions League Twenty20 in India.
